Today our Grade 3 classes led us in the Remembrance Day assembly. I am always touched by this annual tradition. Even though our students are young, they think deeply about big ideas such as war and peace and make connections to their own experiences. Some of our students have family members who serve or have served in the military. Others and/ or their parents may have moved to Canada from a war-torn country. All of our students seek to create a peaceful community through their actions and words.
Thank you to the grade 3 students and their teachers for reminding us how fortunate we are to live in a place of peace through music, art, and poetry; thank you to Ms. Henderson for leading them in their wonderful performances; and thank you to the rest of the Evergreen School community for showing your respect through your attendance and your silence at this important occasion. For some ideas about how to talk to young children about Remembrance day, see my previous post. For more beautiful Remembrance Day artwork, visit the Grade 3 Website.
